Florida Gulf Coast University - Environmental Demonstration Laboratory
Ft. Myers, FL
Project Type: Architectural Design/Construction Documents
Project Cost: TBD
The new Environmental Demonstration Laboratory at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) will provide training and the opportunity to increase awareness of sustainable design issues at the local, state and national levels. With a goal of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, this facility will be a practical example of sustainable design.
Working in collaboration with FGCU, Trifecta Construction, EDC Engineering, TKW Consulting Engineers, and Carlson Studio Architects, Astorino is providing architecture, interior design, and construction document management services.
The U-shaped building provides space for environmental programs including classrooms, offices, and a video theater. Designs call for the use of recycled materials such as flooring and wall materials, energy efficient building systems, shading, solar control, and rainwater re-use. A 2,000 sf exhibit hall space will be used to demonstrate the seven key green building concepts and exhibit educational interactive displays showing pragmatic solutions.
