Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters Training Facility
Pittsburgh, PA
Project Type: New Construction
Completion Date: 2010
Astorino provided full Architecture and Engineering services for the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters’ new Training Facility located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Approximately 70 % of this facility is devoted to technical shops and work spaces while the remaining spaces are divided between classrooms and office spaces.
The training facility is showcased for the types of construction and the techniques that the carpentry trades employ in their work. The structure is a combination of concrete in the lower level and steel in the upper level. On both levels different formwork will be employed as an example for students of the various finishes that can be achieved through their newly learned trade. On the upper level the exposed roof structure is accented by heavy timber wood trusses and covered with long span Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) with wood faces.
