An integral part of the VA Pittsburgh Medical Center’s $190 million Asset Realignment Program, the new 106,000 SF Ambulatory Care Center links primary care, specialty follow-up, physical rehabilitation, audiology, outpatient pharmacy and patient education into a firm-like practice.

Astorino with Associate Architect, HDR, created a design that emphasizes daylighting and simplifies wayfinding to clinical areas: all departments are conveniently accessible from the central atrium and medical suites are arranged in small clusters to eliminate anxiety induced by large medical settings.

Kiosk technology and wireless IT systems streamline operations, minimize wait times and reduce waiting room size. Designed to with environmental responsibility in mind, a rooftop healing garden provides outdoor treatment space, further enhancing clinical outcomes and increasing satisfaction.
