American Lung Association/Quantum Foundation
West Palm Beach, FL
Project Type: Renovation and Addition
Project Cost: $4 million
Completion Date: 2008

The American Lung Association had occupied a small one-story office building built in three phases between the 1960’s and 1980’s. Renovations and repair were needed due to hurricane damage. The ALA and the Quantum Foundation agreed, through a collaborative effort, to construct a joint use facility whereby the Quantum Foundation is assisting in the funding of the upgrade and expansion of the project.

In addition to the renovation of existing space, the project also includes a new parking garage on the ground level and the addition of a 6,000 s.f. second story, which the Quantum Foundation will occupy. Since the two organizations will be sharing spaces and an entrance lobby, Astorino’s design allowed for spaces to be accessible from both floors without creating security concerns for either of the companies.

As a facility for an organization that promotes protecting respiratory health, it is notable that the project is pursuing all of the available credit points in the Indoor Environmental category of LEED®.
