YMCA - South Hills Branch
Pittsburgh, PA
Project Type: New Construction
Project Cost: $14 million

Astorino is currently providing complete architectural and engineering services to design the new South Hills YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Pittsburgh. Currently occupying a 15,000 SF facility, the branch is unable to support over 7,000 members in the area and often leases space to host YMCA’s community programs. To meet the needs of the surrounding community, Astorino is designing a 50,000 SF facility that will include a full gymnasium, wellness and weight areas, group exercise, indoor and outdoor pools and locker rooms. The building will also support camps, as well as senior and youth programs.

The South Hills YMCA is targeting LEED – Silver certification. The building will feature many sustainable elements including a wellness and weight area housed in a butterfly-style roof with oversized windows to achieve natural day lighting. The project will also embrace recycled and regional building materials, indoor environmental quality, and energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems.
